Scientific Beta has been named Best ESG Index Provider at the ESG Investing Awards 2025, which celebrate excellence in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) funds, research and products.

This award recognises our scientific approach to ESG and climate investing, which is built on facts instead of subjective opinions. Leveraging our over €20 billion in AURs with an integrated ESG layer, we made enhancements last year to our low carbon filter to build a more forward-looking Climate Change Screen to overcome the limitations and pitfalls of traditional decarbonisation techniques.

Carbon intensity as a climate transition risk proxy has two clear flaws: by looking into the rearview mirror, carbon intensity provides only partial insights into future risks, and it provides even fewer insights into future opportunities. We have therefore developed a market-based Climate Transition Risk assessment metric, the CTR Beta, that we have incorporated in our climate investing approach, as a complement to decarbonisation.

The idea of our CTR Beta is to extract from market prices, which represent a sort of consensus between a multitude of investors, relevant information on which companies are deemed to be hurt or to benefit from shifts in climate transition risks.”

“The Climate Change Screening of our indices' investable universes will remove 5% of the carbon intensity sector laggards, as well as the 5% of stocks with the highest CTR Betas. This evolution of our climate investing approach combines companies' current achievements and the market perception of their future climate transition risks.” he added.

The ESG Investing Awards are assessed by a panel of independent judges comprising financial market professionals, academics and independent experts. The Awards celebrate the most impactful products, funds and initiatives that are making a positive contribution towards the integrity, uptake and success of ESG investing.
