At the 4th Annual Michigan Institutional Forum, Gregory Best, Senior Business Development, Scientific Beta North America, will be jointly making the opening and closing remarks and Joseph Simonian, Ph.D., Senior Investment Strategist, will be making the opening keynote speech on the importance of process in equity factor investing.
Scientific Beta will be participating in the 4th Annual Michigan Institutional Forum organised by Markets Group on 9 May, 2023 in Detroit which aims to provide insight into selected areas of interest for the regional institutional investor community, including pensions, endowments, foundations, hospital plans, insurance companies and investment consultants.
Gregory Best, Senior Business Development, North America, at Scientific Beta, will be jointly introducing the event, alongside Sara Suarez, Program Manager & Investor Relations at Markets Group, who will together also make the closing remarks at the forum.
Before joining Scientific Beta, Greg was Vice President, Institutional Sales & Client Service - Regional Director at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, managing sales and client service throughout the Western U.S. and Canada. Greg has an Executive MBA from Columbia Business School, New York, a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Florida and is a CFA and CAIA charter holder.
Joseph Simonian, Ph.D., Senior Investment Strategist, at Scientific Beta, will be making the opening keynote speech on "The Importance of Process in Equity Factor Investing", which will focus on the importance of using a properly designed investment process when building equity factor portfolios. In particular, this presentation will address the benefits of using economically intuitive factors, large and varied data sets, and robust model validation. The keynote is intended to provide asset owners with a practical set of criteria that they can apply when evaluating providers of equity factor strategies.
Over the last 17 years Joseph has held senior portfolio management and research positions in several asset management firms, including PIMCO, Fidelity, Natixis Investment Managers, and JP Morgan Asset Management. He is also the founder and CIO of Autonomous Investment Technologies LLC. Joseph is a noted contributor to leading finance journals and is also a prominent speaker at investment events worldwide. He is currently the co-editor of the Journal of Financial Data Science, on the editorial board for The Journal of Portfolio Management, and advisory board member for the Financial Data Professional Institute. Joseph is the author of over 40 academic publications. Joseph also has vast experience in teaching both in academia and industry. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara; an M.A. from Columbia University; as well as a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
