The Midwest Institutional Investor Forum has invited Eric Shirbini, Global Product Specialist at ERI Scientific Beta, to speak on the theme "Smart Beta: Buzzword Explained" at its third annual event. The cap-weighted index fund is facing intense competition from smart beta alternatives. This session will examine what smart beta is and why it is becoming so popular with investors. It will enable participants to understand the key drivers of return and issues when considering smart beta in a portfolio.
The 3rd Annual Midwest Institutional Investor Forum is an educational initiative designed through close coordination with the region’s leading institutional investors to build peer communities that merge global best practices with local expertise. The forum is specially designed to bring together over 100 investment officers, board members, and trustees from the states of Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana.
Prior to joining EDHEC-Risk Institute, Eric Shirbini was a quantitative analyst at UBS, BNP Paribas and Nomura International. During this time he worked on a diverse range of topics including multi-factor models, fundamental stock valuation, equity market indices, portfolio construction and portfolio trading. At BNP Paribas Eric managed a team of analysts who were responsible for the Global Equity Research Database. Mr. Shirbini holds a BSc and PhD from University College London and an MBA from CASS Business School.
